Rob Hicks, a former resident at Heartland Care and Rehab Center, will be honored for his courage demonstrated throughout his therapy due to a traumatic brain injury. At the upcoming Nov. 6 board of directors meeting of the Missouri Brain Injury Association in Columbia, Hicks' positive attitude in response to his changes in life caused by a car accident will be recognized.

The 24-year-old was studying to become an architectural engineer when the accident occurred. The incident affected his short term memory, walking and eating. An attempt to return to college presented many obstacles.

He left the facility in 2000 and still visits Heartland Care and Rehab periodically to see the residents and staff members, which he describes as "friends he will never forget."
