SIKESTON, Mo. -- The 50th annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo ended with the death of a Grandview, Mo., man early Sunday morning.
Michael B. Krebs, 35, was found dead in the east parking lot of the rodeo grounds after he was struck by a utility truck.
Krebs was lying near the back tires on the passenger side of the truck, which was driven by Lloyd Stoner Jr. of Sikeston, according to a release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
Stoner reportedly started the vehicle and allowed it to run a short time before pulling forward to help in taking down a rodeo scoreboard, at which time Krebs was struck by the back tires.
In a released statement, the Sikeston Jaycees expressed their sympathies to Krebs' family and said that the group will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials as the investigation continues.
Krebs' obituary is on Page 5B of today's Southeast Missourian.
