A man involved in an incident at a Cape Girardeau house party in May that put one person in the hospital with stab wounds received two years probation Monday.

Kollin Payne, 22, pleaded guilty to a third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, in Cape Girardeau Circuit Court last month and was given a one-year suspended prison sentence and two years' probation by Judge Benjamin Lewis Monday.

He was originally charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and had pleaded not guilty in May.

Payne was one of three men arrested in connection with a May 3 house party incident. Payne, Kemond Hollis of Ullin, Ill., and Brandin Rowe of Jonesboro, Ill., allegedly attacked four others at a house party in the 300 block of North Pacific Street.

Three men received minor injuries and one man was stabbed, although his injuries were not life-threatening.

According to police, Payne, Hollis and Rowe entered the party uninvited and injured the four men with a knife. When the three were stopped by police while fleeing the scene, Rowe had a knife and blood on his shirt, according to police reports.

Hollis pleaded not guilty to hindering prosecution, while Rowe, 20, pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Rowe will stand trial Jan. 19. Hollis' trial has not been scheduled, according to Casenet.
