CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A Wyatt, Mo., man is in jail on charges of abusing a baby.

Jeffry Hemphill, 25, of Wyatt is scheduled to return to court Jan. 18 on two counts of abuse of a child, two counts of first-degree domestic assault and two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to Missouri Case.net.

Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore reported the Department of Family Services received a hotline tip from a mandated report of multiple and severe injuries of an infant child. The infant victim suffered multiple broken bones.

Hemphill's arrest on Dec. 23 is the result of an investigation by deputies Mike Borders and Janice McCameron.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges and arrests are pending, Moore said.

Hemphill is currently being housed in the Mississippi County Detention Center with a cash only bond of $150,000.
