A Cape Girardeau man was critically injured in a two-car accident Saturday evening near the Town Plaza.
Frank T. Springmeyer, 83, 105 N. Clark, was extricated from his white 1992 Ford Festiva by Cape Girardeau firefighters. He was transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital where he was listed in critical condition late Saturday.
Police said Springmeyer was attempting to drive across William Street when he cut in front of a 1979 Chevrolet Caprice driven by David L. Hastings, 49, of Benton, Ill. Springmeyer's car was struck broadside at William Street and Plaza Way, blocking traffic until officers arrived minutes later.
A ten year-old girl riding in the front seat of Hastings' car was injured and transported to Southeast Hospital. Her condition was unknown at presstime. The girl was not wearing a seat belt.
