MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. -- A suburban St. Louis man is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by lightning while riding his bicycle.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported 51-year-old Joseph Adams of Ballwin was biking along the Maryland Heights Expressway on Thursday afternoon when he was struck in the head by lightning and went into cardiac arrest.

Police say Adams works in the Riverport area and was biking home despite a strong storm. Witnesses stopped to help, and paramedics who arrived within four minutes were able to revive him.
