A Haywood City, Missouri, man was convicted by a federal jury Monday in Cape Girardeau for his role in a Perryville, Missouri, convenience store robbery Nov. 18, according to a federal prosecutor’s news release.
Mikeem Daniel, 27, was found guilty of aiding and abetting interference with commerce by threat or violence and possession of a firearm after a two-day jury trial. Judge Stephen Limbaugh presided over the case.
St. Joe’s General Store clerk Angela Corse testified against Daniel and described the involvement of Darion Lee Gipson of Oran, Missouri, according to the release.
She said Gipson entered the store from the back door about 11:30 p.m., approaching Corse from behind, and put his left arm around Corse’s neck and put a gun to her back, according to the release.
Gipson demanded Corse get him money and took cash from the register and Corse’s wallet before getting in a white Chevrolet Suburban parked behind the store, according to the release.
Perry County sheriff’s deputies stopped the Suburban, driven by Daniel, a few minutes later about a mile from St. Joe’s, according to the release. Deputies found a 9 mm pistol under the cup holder in the vehicle’s center console and Corse’s wallet in the vehicle.
Gipson pleaded guilty to the same charges Daniel faced and was sentenced to 154 months, more than 12 years, in federal prison.
Daniel faces a maximum sentence of 27 years in prison and $500,000 worth of fines, according to the news release. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 20.
Perryville police, Perry County deputies and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officers investigated the case.
