CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A Charleston man is in jail for his involvement in the Sunday shooting murder of a woman.

Maurice Davis, 26, of Charleston faces charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and kidnapping, according to a news release from Charleston Department of Public Safety. He was being held without bond in the Mississippi County Detention Center.

About 5 a.m. Sunday, officers with Charleston Department of Public Safety responded to a 911 call that a woman had been shot at the 300 block of Wallhausen Street. Upon their arrival, officers found 23-year-old Latosha Greer of Charleston in the back yard of a residence. Greer had received an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Missouri Case.net, two court protection orders were sought against Davis in August.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol also assisted DPS in the investigation. No further information was available at press time.
