Man admits crashing party with gun, truck

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- A Bollinger County man acknowledged in court last week that he petrified individuals attending an Oct. 20 get-together by drawing a loaded gun and drunkenly driving his truck into some of their cars.

Jacob W. Cook, 20, of Marble Hill pleaded guilty Wednesday to the weapons charge and two counts of property damage. All are felonies that could have landed him in prison for up to 12 years. Instead, Judge Scott Thomsen placed Cook on probation for five years, going along with an agreement between prosecutors and defense attorney Patrick McMenamin.

Witnesses described Cook as drunk and belligerent when he arrived at the party on County Road 326 in Bollinger County. He threatened the host of the party with a loaded gun before getting behind the wheel of his truck. He then slammed it into vehicles and attempted to run over partygoers, according to court documents. Some at the party told police they had attempted to restrain Cook to no avail.

At the time of the incident, Cook already was on two years of probation for underage drinking. That probation was revoked and replaced with probation that comes with more conditions and the lengthier period. Thomsen ordered Cook to deal with an apparent alcohol problem in such a manner -- counseling or rehab -- as Cook's probation officer deems appropriate. Follow-up treatment will be required under the terms of the probation.
