EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- An East Prairie man was accused of stabbing a woman with a screwdriver early Friday.
Anthony George, 30, is charged with first-degree domestic assault, burglary and armed criminal action.
At 4:22 a.m. Friday, officers with the East Prairie Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence at a residence, according to the department. It was discovered the victim sustained two stab wounds as a result of the altercation. George fled the scene before the officer's arrival.
According to police reports, the victim said George kicked in her front door, assaulted her by repeatedly kicking, punching and restraining her within the residence and preventing her from getting assistance from medical personnel and police. She said it escalated when George picked up a screwdriver and began swinging it in her direction, striking and stabbing her twice.
The victim, who had two stab wounds to the chest, is in stable condition. Mississippi County Sheriff's Department found George near Dogwood, Missouri, on a bicycle and arrested him.
George is scheduled to appear at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in Mississippi County Associate Court before Judge S. Rob Barker.
Bond is set at $100,000 cash or surety. As of press time, he remained in custody in the Mississippi County Jail.
