Man accused of choking former girlfriend, stealing her phone

An arrest warrant was filed Tuesday for a Cape Girardeau man accused of choking his former girlfriend until she passed out, then stealing her phone.

Brian Eugene Clemons Jr., 32, of Cape Girardeau is charged with second-degree domestic assault, a felony.

About 7 p.m. Nov. 8, the victim told Cape Girardeau police officer Amanda Rhodes she invited Clemons into her apartment, and they began to argue, Rhodes wrote in a probable-cause statement.

The victim said Clemons slapped her in the temple, and when she fell on the bed, he began choking her, Rhodes wrote.

The victim said she was choked four times, the second time so hard that she passed out, Rhodes wrote. The victim was able to get away from the apartment, but only after Clemons said he would kill her and he had stolen her phone, Rhodes wrote.

Witnesses said the victim had visible injuries to her neck, and they could hear screaming during the incident, Rhodes wrote.

Clemons was found guilty of domestic assault in 2008, 2010 and 2013, Rhodes wrote.
