A shooting that left two dead Wednesday in the 500 block of Cape Meadows Circle in Cape Girardeau has been resolved, according to the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department received a report of a person down at 10:28 a.m. Wednesday, near 507 Cape Meadows Circle, according to a news release from the major case squad.
That person was discovered to have been transported to an area hospital, the release stated, and was identified as Quincy R. Lucious III, 18, of St. Louis.
Lucious died as a result of his gunshot injuries, the release stated.
While officers were investigating the initial call, they located a second deceased person, identified as Leslie C. Williams, 20, of Cape Girardeau.
Williams injuries also consisted of gunshot wounds, according to the release.
Based on the investigation, the evidence at the scene and witness statements, it is apparent that Mr. Lucious and Mr. Williams were on opposite sides of a dispute that occurred inside 516 Cape Meadows, the release stated. Both young men were armed with firearms and both fired shots at each other. As a result of this exchange of gunfire, both men were struck and subsequently died as a result of those injuries.
Initial reports stated Lucious had been shot in the back; however, autopsy results confirmed that was not the case, the release stated.
Neither Lucious nor Williams were shot in the back, the release stated.
The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad was deactivated Friday.
Tyrese R. Lane, 18, of 1542 Spanish St., was charged Thursday with felony tampering with physical evidence in connection with one of the shooting deaths.
According to a probable-cause statement filed Thursday by detective Doug Hays, Lane picked up several bullets lying around, and put them in his pocket with the intent to dispose of them later.
The bullets were discovered in Lanes pants pockets when he was brought to the station for questioning, according to the statement.
Hays wrote Lane said he picked up the bullets because he thought he would get blamed for the homicide.
