The recent basic training camp at Main Street Fitness was led by Scott Givens, with Millie Wolfenkoehler and Clay Pope helping out.

It was based on a military theme.

After registration, the group played wallyball and did some basic training exercises in the racquetball room at Main Street Fitness.

The group then broke into two teams: "the hummers" and "commandoes."

They were led into the community room to first explain safety and then climb on the ropes and nets.

Archery was practiced across the street in the Jackson City Park. The activities remaining for Day One promised commando training, parachute training, jam house rock and drills.

Day Two began with wallyball, obstacle courses, commando and SEAL training, and water balloon fights.

A hike up to the National Guard in Jackson for an educational presentation by Staff Sgt. Jay Moore and Sgts. 1st Class Chad Craft and Mike Ressel was a highlight for future recruits.

The Main Street visitors were given a tour, a brief overview of the National Guard's mission and information on the importance of education and not doing drugs.

The Main Street visitors also participated in basic drills at the National Guard's gym.

Main Street has a sports camp planned for July 23 and 24, as well as a fitness camp Aug. 6 and 7.
