John Rutter's "Magnificat" will be presented by the Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Academic Auditorium.
The performance will feature the University Orchestra, the University Choir and the Choral Union. John Egbert, director of the Choral Union and the University Choir, will conduct the "Magnificat," which received its world premiere in 1990.
The "Magnificat," a collection of sacred pieces that incorporate the old English poem "Of a Rose" and the prayer "Santa Maria," is scored for full symphonic orchestra, chorus and soprano soloists, who will be Cary Nall, Jane Flaherty and Heather Bollinger.
The University Orchestra, conducted by Sara Edgerton, also will perform Aaron Copland's Outdoor Overture.
The Choral Union draws its 100-voice membership from the community and from university students, faculty and staff.
The orchestra also will perform Aaron Copland's American Outdoor Overture.
Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for seniors citizens and students, and free with the university ID.
