Martha Vandivort, a director of the League of Women Voters of Cape Girardeau County, has been elected a director of LWV/Missouri. The election was held at the state biannual convention in Kansas City.
Linda McDaniel, Florissant, is the new president of LWV/MO. Other officers are: Carol Portman, University City, first vice president; Alice Slagle Barnard, St. Joseph, second vice president; Elise Joerger, University City, secretary; and Mary Merritt, Sedalia, treasurer.
Serving with Vandivort as director will be: Eva Becker, Kansas City; Marina Cofer-Wildsmith, St. Louis; Rachel Fitch, St. Louis; Janet Hardy, Sedalia; Grace Gardner, Springfield; Trudy Scott, Springfield; and Lucille Salerno, Columbia.
Convention delegates adopted a study of public higher education at Missouri's universities, state colleges, community and junior colleges. In addition, the league will restudy the funding of primary and secondary education under the newly-adopted formula.
Delegates adopted a resolution urging the American Legion Auxiliary to select young women for participation in Girls State in the same numbers and using the same criteria as are used for young men chosen for participation in Boys State, annual citizenship programs.
