Several organizations and individuals were recognized at the LFCS Faith in Action dinner for their continuous support throughout the years. The event was held Sept. 24 at the Drury Lodge .
In honor of the Rev. Walter J. Keisker, who for 30 years served as pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was instrumental in the development of the agency's auxiliary in 1960, LFCS created the Walter J. Keiser award, the agency's highest honor. This year it was given to Orville and Laverne Schaefer of Perryville, Mo., for service on boards and committees, hosting dinners at their home and providing financial support.
The agency's Volunteer of the Year award, established in 2005 to recognize those who have devoted their time and talents to LFCS and other ministries, was given to Jane and Roy Boren of Jackson. The Borens served on committees and volunteered for the agency's Faith in Action dinner, Holiday Home Tour, rummage sale and clothing drive.
Granted to organizations that support LFCS and the Southeast Missouri region, the Community Award recipients included the Southeast Missourian newspaper and the Cashbook Journal.
LFCS' Cape Girardeau office provides senior counseling, domestic and international adoption, crisis pregnancy counseling, parenting classes, an Alzheimer's support group, an abstinence-only education program and youth-mentoring services to the Southeast Missouri community.
