Love In the Name of Christ of Southeast Missouri is holding a dinner, "Love Like This," to raise awareness and funds for its mission of caring for those in the community who are in need.

Love INC, with more than 135 affiliates in 30 states, works to bring churches together to aid the poor by providing food, clothing and long-term help such as skills training and transitional housing.

The evening will feature guest speaker Lois Tupyi, executive director of Love INC of Treasure Valley in Nampa, Idaho, and local Love INC volunteers and clients.

Tupyi said she will share how God can use churches to make changes within their communities through working together. Tupyi said she thinks a unified church is the best vehicle to lead to lasting change in people's lives.

"I will be speaking about what Love INC is, why it works, and why it is so unique and effective for any community," Tupyi said in an e-mail. "I'll be sharing examples from our own affiliate in how Love, INC really does transform lives."

There are 21 Cape Girardeau County churches that partner with or sponsor Love INC of Southeast Missouri.

According to www.loveinc.org, Love INC helps more than 1 million people in need each year through nearly 9,000 churches, 6,000 community agencies and more than 300,000 volunteers.
