A Louisiana man died Thursday afternoon when the tanker truck he was riding in overturned on Interstate 55 south of Benton.
Elton York, 37, of Prairieville, La., was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, at 4:25 p.m., York was riding in a tanker truck driven by Shelton Bell, 27, of Baton Rouge, La., when Bell fell asleep at the wheel. The truck ran off the road near the 79-mile marker and overturned.
An ambulance took Bell to St. Frances Medical Center where he was treated and released. Bell wore a seat belt, York didn't.
