Four area women attended the annual conference of the Missouri Association of Family, Community and Education held Sept. 18 and 19 at Holiday Inn Select in Columbia.

Attending were Opal Collins, Mary Klaproth, Margie Swan and Verna Vogel.

The theme was "Let's Make This Our Best Year Yet."

Lt. Gov. Roger Wilson welcomed the group and presented a proclamation from Governor Mel Carnahan proclaiming Oct. 5-12 as National FCE Week.

Workshops included a leadership forum panel.

Local county presidents were introduced as they carried in their banners that were later displayed throughout the conference. Tables at the luncheon were decorated with items of interest from the eight districts.

Chuck Everitt of Columbia was guest speaker. His topic was "No Matter Where You Go -- There You are."

A friendship quilt embroidered by members and hand-quilted, was won by Jewell James of Bollinger County.

A Program of Work Report winners was given, and Cape Girardeau County received first place in the state for its special projects report.

Ada Kneff conducted the installation ceremony.

The Missouri FCE is in its 61st year of service to individuals, families and communities.
