Emily Shanks a student at Thomas Kelly High School at Benton was elected one of 10 national officers of the Future Homemakers of America during the organization's national leadership meeting held July 10-14 in Orlando, Fla.

Along with the nine other members of the national officer team, Shanks will travel several times during the school year to Reston, Va. to attend program planning sessions at the organization's national leadership center. She also will help set policies and develop future goals for the organization. She will lead workshops and give speeches locally and throughout the country.

As vice president of community service, Shanks will help plan the 1995 leadership meeting to be held in Washington D.C.

Shanks is the daughter of Barbara and Michael Shanks. She has been an FHA member for three years. Her chapter adviser is Donna L. Anderson.
