Public schools in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City and Oak Ridge will be closed today because of continued wintry weather conditions, according to school officials, news releases and websites.
However, as of late Sunday afternoon, classes were still on for today at Southeast Missouri State University, News Bureau director Ann Hayes said.
Cape Girardeau School District superintendent James Welker said there is still work to do in terms of getting parking lots, sidewalks and bus lanes cleared of snow. "We thought we'd give it another day. It's always better to be safe," Welker said.
According to the district website, Jackson schools will be closed today because of hazardous road conditions. Snow Day Kids Club will be in session at South Elementary School, the site said.
Oak Ridge superintendent Gerald Landewee confirmed the district has canceled classes today, as well.
Three Rivers College will be closed today, according to a news release from the college.
All classes and activities have been canceled and all offices will be closed at all college locations, the release said.
Final exams scheduled for today will be canceled and students will be graded on the work they have done to date without the final being considered, the release said. Those with concerns may call the office of the vice president for learning at 574-840-9689.
