The St. Louis division of the FBI is monitoring the Jacque Waller missing person case closely but is not officially investigating the woman's June 1 disappearance, a spokeswoman for the agency said Wednesday.

"Jackson is so close to the state line and so, generally speaking, if there was evidence of a crime that's been committed across state lines the FBI does have jurisdiction," said Rebecca Wu, public affairs specialist.

The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad is still investigating Waller's disappearance, although the group didn't release any new information in the case to the Southeast Missourian on Thursday.

Lt. Rodney Barnes, case squad public information officer, said the FBI is assisting them unofficially for consultation purposes.

Waller was last seen a week ago near her estranged husband's residence on Woodland Drive in Jackson. Her husband, Clay Waller, was named as a person of interest in her disappearance Monday and on Tuesday denied repeated interview requests by the Southeast Missourian. Waller is not a suspect at this time.

The case squad launched its investigation June 2, saying Waller's disappearance was out of character for the mother of triplets. Also, her blue Honda Pilot was found abandoned on Interstate 55 with a flat tire the night of her disappearance. Last week, Clay Waller's red GMC Sierra and a boat were seized by the case squad and processed for evidence. Police believe his red truck was at one time pulling the boat and anyone who saw the two should report that information to investigators.

Police have said Clay Waller was the last to see Jacque Waller alive. He told authorities in an interview last week Jacque Waller left from his home on foot following an argument. He then left the residence and returned around 6 p.m. to find her vehicle gone. Clay Waller has not given authorites any new information since the initial interview and a case squad investigator said Tuesday he was no longer cooperating with their investigation.

The case squad is also asking anyone with information on Jacque Waller's whereabouts after 4 p.m. Wednesday to contact the Jackson Police Department at 243-3151.
