Dr. Richard Moore and Beverly Reece will perform a piano jazz duo Friday at Academic Hall Auditorium on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
The two-hour performance will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature several jazz classics.
Moore, a Cape Girardeau physician, said it's the first time in 10 years he and Reece, a well-known local musician, will perform together.
The duo will be joined by Steve Osgood, a bass player from the Pittsburgh, Pa. area, and Steve Williams, a drummer who hails from Cairo, Ill.
"Steve Williams is the fire chief in Cairo," said Moore. "He has been playing this kind of stuff for as long as I have and has played with a number of musicians around the area for many years.
"Steve Osgood and he initially crossed paths in the military service in the 1960s, and he's played with a number of people over the years."
Moore said that although he and Reece played together a couple times a decade ago, Friday will be the first time all four musicians have performed together.
"Bev and I have rehearsed a little to get the intros and endings down, but that's about the extent of it," he said. "That's the beauty of jazz. I think you lose something in improvisation when it's too rehearsed."
The performance will include many jazz classics and a tune written and performed by Heidi Bergman, an instructor at Southeast, who will perform on violin to the accompaniment of Reece, Osgood and Williams.
The cost of the performance is $5 per person, and advance tickets may be purchased at Shivelbine's Music in Cape Girardeau. For more information, call Moore at 339-7575, or 339-1371.
