LOCAL BOY HONORED

Cadet Robert Barney, son of Robert S. Barney of Dexter and Kathryn M. Skelton of Cape Girardeau, was recently promoted to cadet staff sergeant at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Mo.

Promotions are awarded on leadership performance, academic standards and discipline allowances.

Cadets must also be nominated by the Senior Army Instructor, Commandant of Cadets, their company commanders and advisers.

Barney was also awarded the Academic Fourragere for superior scholastic achievement, the Parade Ribbon for an outstanding performance during the University of Missouri football game, the Foreign Language Ribbon for having demonstrated willingness to master English, French or Spanish, the Maroon Bar for a perfect disciplinary record during the past month, and the Soldier's Bar for outstanding military courtesy. He is a junior at the academy.
