Both the source and identity of a green dye, a red dye and a fuel floating down the Mississippi River remained a mystery Sunday night.
The Cape Girardeau Fire Department was called in to assist the Missouri and Illinois Departments of Natural Resource, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri State Highway Patrol in investigating the incident.
"It was originally observed in Commerce, and they worked their way up to the Cape area," said a person with the fire department.
He said the DNR planned on resuming the investigation Monday.
The fire department worked with DNR, the EPA and highway patrol from 3:43 to 5:50 p.m. but found no answer to what the liquids were or from where they had come.
