A ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday is set to mark the completion of construction activities for the new Lexington Avenue connection from Route 61 to Route W in Cape Girardeau.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the intersection of Lexington and Route 61. The public is invited.
The ceremony is being sponsored by the city of Cape Girardeau in cooperation with the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department and Robertson Contractors, Inc., of Poplar Bluff.
The project, a cooperative effort of the highway department and the city, included a five-lane road and bridge over Cape LaCroix Creek.
In addition, traffic signals were installed at the Lexington intersection with Route 61. The cost for these improvements was more than $1.3 million and was funded from the city's federal aid urban funds and from state funds.
