Leopold makes plans for return of annual picnic

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- A Bollinger County tradition will mark its return Saturday with the annual Leopold Picnic. Dinner will be served starting at 3 p.m. behind St. John's Church.

Beginning in the early morning hours Saturday, volunteer workers will begin preparing food for the old-fashioned country dinner, which will be served from 3 to 8 p.m., consisting of kettle beef, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and all the trimmings. In all, 1,100 pounds of beef, 500 pounds of stewing chicken for the dumplings and 1,300 pounds of chicken for frying will be served.

In addition to food, there will be a wide variety of games and activities available to entertain picnic-goers, including a gift shop, homemade ice cream, games and a fish pond stand.

Music will be provided starting at 3 p.m. by the Ron Nanney sound system.

Beginning at 8 p.m., the band Southern Fire will perform country music for dancing.

The annual picnic is sponsored by St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold. All proceeds of the picnic go to benefit the church and the parish.
