Singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow is known for her willingness to perform for good causes, whether it's the Campaign for a Land Mine-Free World, breast cancer prevention or more local concerns like Neil Young's Bridge benefits that help a Northern California school for severely disabled children.

The Kennett, Mo., native and seven-time Grammy winner twice has returned to her hometown to give benefit concerts. On Dec. 2, she will play the Show Me Center for the first time in a concert that will benefit both Southeast Missouri State University and Kennett.

Crow will receive no performance fee. The proceeds from the concert will fund scholarships at the River Campus School for the Visual and Performing Arts and for the Kennett Higher Education Center.

Regent Doyle Privett of Kennett said the concert could raise $100,000 for scholarships to be divided equally between the two sites. A longtime friend of the Crow family, Privett made the announcement Tuesday during a meeting of the Board of Regents.

In 1997, Crow performed at the Kennett High School football stadium to benefit the Kennett Education Foundation and provide scholarships for two other civic organizations.

Last year, she raised more than $25,000 in a concert that provided scholarships for the Kennett Area Higher Education Center.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert at the Show Me Center go on sale at 9 a.m. Oct. 28. Tickets are $30 for lower level and floor seats and $25 for upper level seats.

The concert is sponsored by Southeast. Media partners are the Southeast Missourian, KFVS12 and the Zimmer Radio Group.
