SCHOLARSHIPS; EXTRA CREDIT

Bahn and Moll attend Girls State

Cape Girardeau Central High School students Carsen Bahn and Karrie Moll attended Girls State this summer in Warrensburg, Mo. Bahn is the daughter of Dr. Taylor and Nancy Bahn. Karrie Moll is the daughter of Duane and Toni Moll.

SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary has awarded 22 nursing school scholarships totaling $12,000. Vera Campbell Jones of Cape Girardeau received the Charlotte Sargent Scholarship to pursue an advanced nursing degree. Magin Patrick of Cape Girardeau received the Elda Heartling Scholarship; Adrien Stern of Cape Girardeau received the Margaret Foster Roberts Scholarship; Alicia Rhodes of Jackson received the Hutson Family Scholarship; and Terri Buddle of Jackson received the Polly DuVal Kinder Scholarship. Also receiving scholarships were Callie Williams, Stacy Underwood, Joel Thomas, Heather Mouser, Brook McFerron, Danielle King, Kim Griffaw and Rachel Durham, all of Cape Girardeau; Whitney Stamp of Kelso, Elizabeth McRoberts of Bloomfield, Mo.; Emily Greenley of Olive Branch, Ill.; Laura Thompson of Campbell, Mo.; Bett Pinnon of Wolf Lake, Ill.; Brandy Liebeknecht of Millersville, and Cheri Knauss and Brittany Brockmire, both of Jackson.

EXTRA CREDIT

  • Egyptian Elementary School received a $500 character education grant from Wal-Mart. The grant will assist staff in teaching students about honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, freedom, equality and respect.

* The Cape Central High School Marching Tigers placed second overall in the Class 4A Division at the Murphysboro, Ill., band festival on Sept. 16. The Tigers missed taking first place by a 10th of a point. The band scored outstanding in the 4A Division in percussion, music performance and visual performance.
