Achievement academy recognizes area students
Several local students recently received recognition from the United States Achievement Academy, including:
Ashton Brooke Phillips, a national award winner in honor roll and an all-American scholar. Phillips is the daughter of Greg and Debbie Phillips of Scott City.
Kara Neupert, a national award winner in honor roll. Neupert is the daughter of Brian and Susan Neupert of Scott City.
Mark Unterreiner, a national award winner in English. He is the son of Steve and Debra Unterreiner of Cape Girardeau.
Matt Miller, a national award winner in honor roll and an all-American scholar. Miller is the son of Gary and Gail Miller of Scott City.
Mark Dannenmueller, a national award winner in art and honor roll and an all-American scholar. He is the son of Jack and Juanita Dannenmueller of Scott City.
Winners of no-smoking essay contest named
Several local students were recently recognized for their entries in the Cape Girardeau County Area Medical Society Alliance's "smoking is not for me" essay contest. Winners were:
1st place -- Shianne Knepper, Oak Ridge Middle School
2nd place -- Mattie Jo Wilhite, Oak Ridge Middle School
3rd place -- Alexandra Owen, Perryville Middle School
Two students awarded CPA scholarships
Two Cape Girardeau students were recently awarded scholarships from the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. Tim Schroeder is a student at Southeast Missouri State University. Candace London is a senior at Central High School.
Jackson student earns award, scholarship
Chrissi Glastetter of Jackson recently received the Lenora L. Bode Scholarship and the student council leadership award to St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Glastetter is the daughter of Norman Glastetter.
Enderle wins second in chemistry competition
Katelyn Enderle, a student at St. Joseph School in Scott City, recently competed in the Missouri State Junior Academy of Science competition in Kansas City, where she placed second in the state in junior high chemistry. She qualified for the state competition after placing first in a district level competition.
Poster contest winner awarded savings bond
Alex Sotak, a student at South Elementary in Jackson, was recently awarded a $50 savings bond as the grand prize winner in the Jackson Noon Optimist Club's respect for law poster contest.
Other winners from Jackson public and parochial schools were: Melinna Craft, Mackenzie Hobeck, Alex Stagner, Nicole Glastetter, Brianna Sell, Chelsea Lane, Megan Hensley, Braxton McDowell, Cory Hogan, Kyleigh Troxel, Dakota Kesterson, Emily Davidson, Aaron Sutton, Brianna Sykes and Crystal Ladner.
Area students receive President's scholarships
Kelli Holland of Cape Girardeau and Amanda Lowry of Jackson have received President's scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Holland is a senior at Cape Central High School. She is the daughter of Michael and Carrie Holland of Cape Girardeau. Lowry is a senior at Jackson High School. She is the daughter of Greg and Janet Lowry and Mark and Mary Waller, all of Jackson.
Diebold receives Eckerd scholars award
Jennifer Diebold of Cape Girardeau recently received the Eckerd Drug Scholars Award from St. Louis College of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Rick and Sarah Ross.
Wieser inducted into Phi Eta Sigma honor society
Quincy University in Quincy, Ill., recently inducted 31 students into the Phi Eta Sigma honor society, including Alex Wieser of Cape Girardeau. Wieser is a freshman and the daughter of Rick and Judy Wieser of Cape Girardeau.
