Younghouse graduates from Concordia University

Matthew Younghouse of Cape Girardeau was among 457 students to graduate from Concordia University in Mequon, Wisc., during annual commencement ceremonies May 17.

The university offers 45 undergraduate majors and is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Younghouse received a degree in pastoral ministry.

Area students graduate from Kansas State

Three local students are among more than 2,500 to graduate from Kansas State University during spring commencement ceremonies.

James McGill of Cape Girardeau will graduate with a doctor of philosophy degree. Laura Ponder of Perryville, Mo., will graduate with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Daniel Schumer of Perryville will graduate with a bachelor's degree in interior architecture.

Eagle Ridge school receives accreditation

Eagle Ridge Christian School has received accreditation by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.

The accreditation indicates that the school has met quality standards and is committed to continuous improvement.

The NCA is a voluntary coalition of nearly 11,000 schools and colleges in the central United States.

Berea College scholarship goes to area student

Katie Maginel, a senior at Central High School, has been admitted to Berea College in Berea, Ky., for the 2003-2004 school year.

She will receive a four-year, full tuition scholarship worth more than $80,000, and will participate on the college's swim team.

Maginel is the daughter of Mary and Jim Maginel of Cape Girardeau.

Student from Scott City graduates cum laude

Eric Schlosser of Scott City is graduating cum laude with an associate's of applied science degree from Jefferson Community College in Hillsboro, Mo.

He is a 1999 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and is the son of Randy and Tina Schlosser. He is employed with Appraisal Consultants in Scott City.

Herzog earns '1' ratings in piano competitions

Jacob Herzog received "1" ratings at recent district and state piano competitions.

Herzog is a sophomore at Central High School and the son of Gina and David Herzog. He is a student of Janet Presson at Keyboard & Kindermusik Conservatory.

Nurse assistant student receives scholarship

During the spring semester at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, the Cape Girardeau County Chapter 4041 AARP provided a scholarship to nurse assistant student Stephanie Campbell.

Campbell completed the certified nurse assistant training program, and her long-term goal is to become a registered nurse.

Two area seniors receive college scholarships

Lindsey Jones and Danny Bollinger, seniors at Meadow Heights High School, recently received college scholarships from local insurance companies.

Jones was awarded the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and Arnsberg Insurance scholarship for $500. She is the daughter of Randy Jones and Stan and Jan Fulton of Sedgewickville, Mo.

She plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in journalism.

Bollinger received a $250 scholarship from Arnsberg Insurance. He is the son of Sid and Lee Bollinger of Sedgewickville. He plans to attend Southeast and major in computer technology.

Morgan named National Award Winner

Faie Morgan, a student at Scott City High School, has been named a United States National Award Winner for honor roll.

She was nominated by counselor LaDonna Pratt. Morgan is the daughter of Barry and Gail Walker and the granddaughter of Juanita McCormick of Scott City and Dorothy Walker of Burfordville, Mo.

National honors society accepts local student

Trevor Charles Blattner of Cape Girardeau was accepted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

The society is a highly selective, non-profit honors organization that recognized first and second year undergraduate students who excel academically.

Blattner will be honored during a campus ceremony next fall at the University of Kansas.

Dumey gets master's degree from SIU

Laura Dumey of Jackson graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on May 10 with a master of science degree.

More than 1,400 students graduated from the school at spring commencement.

Area students get SEMORegents' scholarships

Jill Heuschober of Cape Girardeau and Brent Neader of Jackson have been awarded Regents' scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2003-2004 academic year.

The scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who have achieved an ACT score of 27 or SAT score of 1220. Students also must have a high school grade point average of 3.5 or graduate in the top 10 percent of their class.

Heuschober, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Heuschober of Cape Girardeau, will graduate from Notre Dame Regional High School.

Neader, the son of Darren and Mary Neader of Jackson, will graduate from Jackson High School.

Jackson student receives agriculture scholarship

Brent Aufdenberg of Jackson is the recipient of the 2003 Southeast Missouri District Fair Foundation scholarship.

The $600 scholarship is awarded to college students with an agriculture-related major who have participated in the fair.

Aufdenberg is a student at Southeast Missouri State University, where he is majoring in agribusiness with a minor in animal science.

He is the son of Rick and Renee Aufdenberg of Jackson.

Local student earns bachelor's from Mizzou

Tahisha Yuvonne McBride-Kindle will receive a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy this spring from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

McBride-Kindle is a 1999 graduate of Central High School and is the daughter of DeBorah McBridge of Cape Girardeau and Allen Kindle of Ullin, Ill.

While at Mizzou, she was active in Phi Eta Sigma, National Honor Society and awarded the Macy Scholar certificate from the Macy Minorities in Medicine program.

Cape residents graduate with honors form SMSU

Ruth Bechtold, Janel Welker and Timothy Chisman, all of Cape Girardeau, graduated with honors with bachelor of science degrees from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield on May 16.

Bechtold graduated summa cum laude and Welker and Chisman graduated cum laude.

Students graduating summa cum laude have grade point averages of 3.9 to 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students graduating cum laude have grade point averages of 3.4 to 3.74.

Area seminary student awarded scholarship

William Hennecke Jr. of Cape Girardeau was recently chosen as a winner of a $1,000 Gerald A. Wiewel Vocation Scholarship.

The scholarship is for students pursuing a religious degree. Hennecke is attending Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis.

Two students receive Provost Award

Donna Kridelbaugh and Jennifer Smith, both of Cape Girardeau, received Provost awards at Southeast Missouri State University which recognized their academic excellence.

Ball, Barnes win university service awards

Trent Ball and Dr. Jeremy Barnes received University Service awards at Southeast Missouri State University.

Ball is director of minority student programs and assistant dean of students. Barnes is an assistant professor of health, human performance and recreation.

Specht wins achievement recognition award

Matt Specht, associate director of recreational sports at Southeast Missouri State University, received the school's Student Life Achievement Recognition Award.

The award recognizes individuals for helping the campus community.

SAC and Catholic Campus Ministries honored

The Student Activities Council and Catholic Campus Ministries were awarded Outstanding Student Organization awards at Southeast Missouri State University.

The awards recognize student organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the betterment of the university community.
