Oran student receives state corn scholarship

Todd J. Landewee of Oran, Mo., is the recipient of a 2005 Missouri Corn scholarship for college juniors. He is a student at Southeast Missouri State University.

Thiele attends leadership conference at Linn State

Craig Thiele of Leopold, Mo., recently attended the Missouri Skills USA State Leadership and Skills Conference at Linn State Technical College in Linn, Mo. He won first place in welding skills and third place in welding tests. He also received a scholarship to the college and qualified to compete in a national competition in June. He is the son of Robert and Georgia Thiele of Leopold.

Burger graduates with honors from SLU

Allison Burger of Benton, Mo., recently graduated magna cum laude from St. Louis University with a bachelor's degree in communication and a minor in education. She is the daughter of Jamie and Sherry Burger of Benton.

Who's Who to include student from Jackson

Zach Brazer of Jackson was recently named to Who's Who Among American High School students. His biography was accepted to the Who's Who sports edition for 2004-2005.

Two Perryville students graduate with honors

Julia Heuring and Megan Kutz of Perryville, Mo., recently graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Health-care scholarship applications are available

Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation and Auxiliary applications are available for the 2005 Healthcare Scholarships. Around 20 awards of $1,000 each are given out every year to applicants who have completed one year of an accredited health-care program with at least a 2.5 GPA. Deadline is June 6. For more information, contact the foundation at 331-5994.

8 area students get scholarships to SMSU

The following local students received scholarships from Southwest Missouri State University for the 2005-2006 year:

Cape Girardeau -- Amy Shinn; Jackson -- Leni Fluegge, Jacie Hartle, Matthew Morris, Sarah Nenninger, Kyndra Williams; Millersville -- Casey Alderson; Oak Ridge -- Hailey Ponder.

Barkley accepted to doctoral training program

Tamika Barkley, a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia, has been accepted into the doctoral training program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Kentucky. She has also received the Lyman T. Johnson Fellowship in addition to a tuition scholarship. She is the daughter of Bill and Reba Barkley of Cape Girardeau.
