Jill Bryant of Cape Girardeau, Sidney Burks of Chaffee, Melissa Lane, Jennifer Ferrell, Tyler Halterman and Freda Lintner, all of Jackson, Monica Senciboy and Jamie Welter of Benton, and Dustin Eftink of Oran have been awarded President's Scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year.

Ferrell and Senciboy also received Missouri Leadership Award scholarships.

Bryant, a senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, is the daughter of Karen Dublinski of Cape Girardeau.

Burks, a senior at Chaffee High School, is the son of Connie Burks of Chaffee and Robert Burks of Robinsonville, Miss.

Lane, a senior at Jackson High School, is the daughter of Susan Lane of Jackson and Russell Lane of Cape Girardeau.

Welter, a senior at Kelly High School, is the daughter of Paul and Cheryl Welter of Benton.

Halterman, a senior at Jackson High School, is the son of Renee Halterman of Jackson and Floyd Halterman of Dyersburg, Tenn.

Eftink is a senior at Oran High School.

Lintner, a senior at Jackson High School, is the daughter of Debbie Lintner of Jackson and Herman Lintner of Sikeston.

Senciboy, a senior at Kelly High School, is the daughter of Michael and Linda Senciboy of Benton.

Ferrell, a senior at Jackson High School is the daughter of Larry Ferrell and Patricia Holley of Jackson.

President's Plus scholarships awarded

Timothy Egbuka, Mark Dunaway and David Burdick, all of Cape Girardeau, Bradley Eaton of Jackson, Brandy Liebeknecht and Scott Sterling, both of Millersville, Michanda Gramlisch of Chaffee and Jonathan Burford of Kelso have been awarded President's Plus scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year.

Egbuka, a senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, is the son of John Egbuka of Jackson and Denise Egbuka of Cape Girardeau.

Dunaway, a senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, is the son of Mike and Mary Etta Dunaway of Cape Girardeau.

Burdick, a senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, is the son of Brad and Anna Burdick of Cape Girardeau.

Eaton, a senioir at Jackson High School, is the son of J.D. and Trisha Eaton of Jackson.

Conn receives Regents' Scholarship to Southeast

Randy Conn II of Morley, Mo., has been awarded a Regents' Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Conn, a senior at Bell City High School, is the son of Randy and Teresa Conn of Morley.

Dickerson receives Missouri Leadership Award

Casey Dickerson of Millersville has been awarded a Missouri Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Dickerson, a senior at Jackson High School, is the daughter of George and Nina Dickerson of Millersville.

Local student named to president's list

Margaret Clark of Cape Girardeau was named to the president's list at Mississippi University for Women at Columbus, Miss., for the fall 2003 semester for having a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Maginel siblings named to Berea dean's list

BEREA, Ky. -- Two Cape Girardeau residents, Katherine Maginel and Calvin Maginel were among the Berea College students named to the fall 2003 semester dean's list. Katherine and Calvin are the children of Jim and Mary Maginel of Cape Girardeau.

Mothershead graduates from Purdue University

Russ Mothershead II, a 1999 graduate of Kelly High School in Benton, graduated in 2003 from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., with a bachelor's degree in agriculture economics. He was involved in Mortar Board, National Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, president of Purdue Agriculture Student Council and the President's Round Table. Mothershead was selected for the honors program at Purdue. His honors thesis was selected and presented at the 2003 AAEA Conference in Montreal, Canada. He resides in Wisconsin and is the son of Russ and Kim Mothershead of Scott City. He is the grandson of Hoyt and Betty Mothershead of Benton and Kathryn and the late Donald Vance Sr. of Cape Girardeau.

Clay Mothershead, a student at Kelly High School in Benton, recently attended the Missouri Agribusiness Academy in St. Louis. Mothershead is a member of the National FFA and 4-H and president of his high school's FFA organization. He is the son of Russ and Kim Mothershead of Scott City. He is the grandson of Hoyt and Betty Mothershead of Benton and Kathryn and the late Donald Vance Sr. of Cape Girardeau.

Welch receives scholarship to Webster University

Jacob R. Welch of Cape Girardeau was been selected as a recipient of the Webster University Academic Scholarship for the 2004-05 school year for Webster University in St. Louis.

Program names Kiblinger as a top senior in state

Notre Dame Regional High School student David Kiblinger has been selected for the 2004 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri's top seniors.

Area students win at Congressional Art Contest

Local students were recently selected as winners in the 2004 Congressional Art Contest. Central High School student Michaelyn Burns received the best of show award. Her piece will be part of a national exhibition in the U.S. Capitol through May 2005. Receiving honorable mentions in the contest were Cambry Pierce, Sallie Juden and Kate Devaney, all of Central High School.

Scholar Bowl tournament awards trophies

Eight teams from six area elementary schools participated in the third annual Notre Dame High School Invitational Grade School Scholar Bowl Tournament recently. Trophies were awarded to the top four teams. Individual medals were awarded to the top eight individuals based on the number of questions answered correctly per game.

Local team winners were: first place, St. Vincent de Paul; second place, St. Mary Cathedral; fourth place, St. Joseph in Scott City.

Local individual winners were: 1st - David Westrich (St. Vincent de Paul); 2nd - Richie Bohn (St. Joseph); 3rd - Adam Parker (St. Mary Cathedral); 5th - Andrew Williams (St. Mary Cathedral); 6th - Jake Buckenmeyer (St. Vincent de Paul); 7th - Jared James (St. Mary Cathedral)
