Local students receive scholarships; AWARDS, DEANS LISTS; Students recognized for academic achievements; Livingston receives leadership award

SCHOLARSHIPS

Local students receive scholarships

  • Rachel Huebel, daughter of Randy and Kay Huebel of Cape Girardeau, has been awarded a Regents' Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2006-2007 academic year. Huebel attends Eagle Ridge High School.

* Garrett Holzum, son of Jeff and Mary Holzum of Cape Girardeau and a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Health Professions, was recently awarded a scholarship from the Society of Nuclear Medicine.

* Caitlen Denny of Cape Girardeau, Erynne Sharp of Jackson and Meghan Tetley of Chaffee, each have been awarded President's Plus scholarships and Missouri Assessment Program scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Denny and Sharp attend Jackson High School. Denny is the daughter of Mike and Doris Denny of Cape Girardeau. Sharp is the daughter of Ralph and Judy Sharp of Jackson.

Tetley is a senior at Kelly High School at Benton, Mo. She is the daughter of Danny and Belinda Tetley of Chaffee.

AWARDS, DEANS LISTS

Students recognized for academic achievements

  • Jennifer Balsman, the daughter of Melvin and Shirley Balsman of Perryville, Mo., has won an academic excellence award as a student in the Vermont Law School, class of 2007, in South Royalton, Vt.

* Amber Barkley, daughter of Reba and Billy Barkley of Cape Girardeau, was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2005 semester at Washington University in St. Louis.

* Trinity Lutheran School students Nick LeGrand, eighth grade; Lucy Gage, seventh grade; and James Holloway, sixth grade, qualified for state competition in the Readers Digest National Word Power Challenge, a vocabulary contest. They are among the top 100 students in the state who are eligible for the state contest.

Livingston receives leadership award

Ashley Livingston of Scott City, a student at Scott City High School, received a U.S. National Award for leadership from the United States Achievement Academy.

Extra Credit

Susan Riehl received the American Legion Award for excellence in education. Riehl is an elementary school teacher in the Cape Girardeau School District. WITH MUG OF RIEHL
