Six students earn Regents' scholarships
Andrea Jestus and Trae Brotherton, both of Jackson, Darren Neels, Stephen Hine and Heidi Pilsner, all of Cape Girardeau, and Rachel Schwiesow of Gordonville, have been awarded Regents' scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year.
Jestus and Brotherton are seniors at Jackson High School. Jestus is the daughter of Terri Jestus of Jackson and the late Donnie Jestus. Brotherton is the son of Tammy and Dean Brotherton of Jackson.
Neels and Pilsner are seniors at Cape Girardeau Central High School. Neels is the son of Jerry and Rhonda Neels of Cape Girardeau. Pilsner is the daughter of Robert and Gay Pilsner of Cape Girardeau.
Hine is a senior at Notre Dame Regional High School. He is the son of Debra and Jeff Hine of Cape Girardeau.
Schwiesow was home schooled. She is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Wayne Schwiesow of Gordonville.
Overbey named to all-USA academic team
Jeffrey Overbey, a Southeast Missouri State University senior from Cape Girardeau, has been named to the third team in USA Today's 2004 All-USA College Academic Team. Overbey is completing majors in computer science and applied math. Criteria for application included excellence in scholarship and leadership, both on and off campus, and three letters of recommendation. Overbey also had to write an essay detailing his most outstanding academic or intellectual accomplishment -- a cryptology formula he devised to measure how secure a particular cipher is. The formula took nearly a year to create.
Welter joins Phi Eta Sigma at UMR
Andrew Welter of Cape Girardeau was recently inducted into the University of Missouri-Rolla chapter of Phi Eta Sigma. Phi Eta Sigma is a national honor society for students with at least a 3.5 GPA. Welter, who was also elected executive council member, is a 2003 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. He is the son of Fred Welter of Kelso and Teri Buckenmyer of Cape Girardeau.-- From staff reports
Local students named to dean's list at Ga. Tech
Erik Labo and Nicole Poythress of Cape Girardeau were named to the fall semester 2003 dean's list at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
Overbey named to all-USA academic team

Local students make Truman honors lists
Katie Ann Rose of Cape Girardeau was named to the fall 203 semester president's list at Truman State University. She is a senior English/theater major and is the daughter of William and Ann Cunningham.
J. Luke VanCleve of Cape Girardeau was named to the fall 2003 semester vice president's list at Truman State University. VanCleve is a sophomore chemistry/pre-medicine major and is involved in the Delta Chi fraternity. He is the son of John and Mary VanCleve.
Presnell earns spot on Ole Miss honor roll

Michael Presnell of Jackson was named to the chancellor's honor roll at the University of Mississippi for the fall 2003 semester. Presnell is a sophomore mechnical engineering major and is the son of Mark and Ann Presnell of Jackson.
Area student named to dean's list at Baylor
Patricia Bennett of Cape Girardeau was named to the fall 2003 semester dean's list at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Elementary students win at poster contest
The following students from Cape Girardeau School District were winners in the MNEA Martin Luther King Poster Contest. The contest theme was "Finding Strengths in Our Differences."
Kindergarten through 1st grade winners: 1st place, Paige Messerli, 2nd place, George Kester, 3rd place, Hannah Whitmore; 2nd through 3rd grade: 1st place Sydney Messerli, 2nd place, Savannah Burns, 3rd place, Alex Mehner.
4th through fifth grade: 1st place, Lizzie Nussbaum, 2nd place, Charisma Desai, 3rd place, Mary Dodd; 6th through 8th grade: 1st place, Annette Hammond, 2nd place, Matthew Zlokovich, 3rd place, Melissa Pitcher.
President's Plus scholarships go to area students
Sara Meystedt and David Randolph, both of Cape Girardeau, and Ross Myers of Jackson have been awarded President's Plus scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Meystedt will graduate from Notre Dame High School. She is the daughter of Tom and Diana Harold of Cape Girardeau and James and Barbara Meystedt of Franklin, Tenn. Randolph will graduate from Cape Girardeau Central High School. He is the son of Bob and Barb Randolph of Cape Girardeau. Myers will graduate from Jackson High School. He is the son of Ed and Nancy Myers of Jackson.

Jessica Loos of Jackson, Tyler Myers of Oak Ridge, Ashley Hughes of Dutchtown, Loreal Garner and Lucas Presson, both of Cape Girardeau, Angela Green of Whitewater and Jessica Diebold of Chaffee have been awarded President's scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year.
Diebold and Garner also received Missouri Leadership awards to attend Southeast.
Loos, a senior at Jackson High School, is the daughter of Robert and Mary Loos of Jackson.
Myers, a senior at Oak Ridge High School, is the son of Teresa and Julious Myers Jr. of Oak Ridge.
Hughes is a senior at Eagle Ridge Christian High School. She is the daughter of Barry and Elly Hughes of Dutchtown.
Garner will graduate from Notre Dame Regional High School. She is the daughter of Bob and Linda Garner of Cape Girardeau.
Presson will graduate from Cape Girardeau Central High School. He is the son of Don and Janet Presson of Cape Girardeau.
Green will graduate from Delta High School. She is the daughter of Terry and Susan Green of Whitewater.
Diebold is a senior at Notre Dame Regional High School. She is the daughter of Paula and David Diebold of Chaffee.
Williams gets Webster University scholarship
Katherine Williams of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a Webster University Academic Scholarship for the 2004-05 academic year.
Heisserer named to Williams president's list
Sara Heisserer of Oran has been named to the president's list at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark., for the fall 2003 semester.
Three local students make MSU dean's List
Stephanie Conner and Casie Janet, both of Cape Girardeau, and Andrew Lanpher of Advance, Mo., have been named to the fall 2003 semester dean's list at Murray State University.
