Tummins named to national honors society

Clay Tummins, son of Joyce Tummins of Cape Girardeau, has been inducted into the National Scholars Honor Society. A sophomore in the nursing program at Southeast Missouri State University, he has been nominated to serve as a collegiate scholar in the International Scholar Laureate Program delegation on medicine to Australia this summer.

Students recognized for academic achievement

  • Christopher Philipps of Jackson was named to the fall 2005 Vice President for Academic Affairs' list for academic achievement. He is the son of Carolyn Philipps of Jackson.

* Stacy Grundy, Sara Holman and Brittany Lingle of Egyptian High School in Tamms, Ill., have been named 2006 State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. The program recognizes Illinois high school students for outstanding academic achievement.

* Meredith Toole of Cape Girardeau was named to the fall 2005 dean's list at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

* Beth McDowell and Mesha Russell, both of Cape Girardeau, were named to the fall semester dean's list at Union University in Jackson, Tenn.

GRADUATIONS, HONORS

Five area students graduate from MU

The following students, listed by hometown, graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in the 2005 fall semester with honors or advanced degrees:

Cape Girardeau -- Haley Bridges, master of occupational therapy; Jonathan Koch, bachelor of science in business administration, magna cum laude; Jill Wittenborn, master of education.

Jackson -- Matthew Pourney, master of arts in French language.

Perryville -- Melissa Riney, bachelor of health science, summa cum laude.
