Locals among All-State Choir participants
Students in local high schools were among those chosen for this year's Missouri All-State Choir, including: Jordan Cox, Hannah Rice, Laura Puchbauer and Gabriel Gross from Jackson; Rachel Morse from Cape Girardeau; and Tim Yamnitz of Perryville, Mo.
The students were selected on the basis of individual auditions, using musical sight reading and tonal memory material that is standard throughout the state.
Central senior named student of month
Danielle Auer, a senior at Central High School, was chosen as the Exchange Club student of the month for November.
She is the daughter of Mark and Joy Auer of Cape Girardeau, and is active in FBLA, Beta Club and student senate. She has participated in the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy and is involved in Young Life.
Area students garner President's Scholarships
President's scholarships at Southeast Missouri State University have been awarded to Emily Buehrle of Cape Girar-deau, and Jessica Farrow and Joanna Friese, both of Jackson, for the 2004-2005 academic year.
Buehrle is the daughter of Tony and Donna Buehrle of Cape Girardeau. Farrow is the daughter of Stanley and Susan Farrow of Jackson. Friese is the daughter of Jerry and Mary Friese of Jackson.
Welter, Oliver get President's Plus awards
Trevor Welter of Jackson and Chelsey Oliver of Cape Girardeau have received President's Plus scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year.
Welter is the son of Debbie Klipfel of Jackson and John and Pam Welter of Benton, Mo.
Oliver is the daughter of Mark Oliver and JoEllen Hawn, both of Cape Girardeau.
Housby in Harding University concert choir
Jason Housby of Cape Girar-deau was recently chosen to participate in the concert choir at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
Housby is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Housby of Cape Girardeau and is a freshman majoring in computer science.
Southeast students win music contest awards
Southeast Missouri State University music majors recently won awards at the state convention of the Missouri Music Teachers Association in Kansas City, Kan.
First-place winners included Emily Grannemann in undergraduate woodwinds, Matt Palisch in undergraduate brass and organ, Gabriel Deutsch in undergraduate guitar and Michelle Thuy Ha in graduate woodwinds. Carrie Womack received an honorable mention in undergraduate woodwinds.
