Student earns regent's scholarship to CUNE

Christina Mann of Pocahontas, Mo., has been awarded a regent's scholarship to Concordia University in Seward, Neb., for the 2004-2005 year. Mann is the daughter of Robert and Karen Mann.

Hileman to attend world leadership forum

Heather Hileman, a student at R.O. Jawkins Junior High in Jackson, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. She will join other students in Washington, D.C., this March to earn high school credit while studying leadership. Her acceptance was based on scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.

Koenig graduates with honors from UMSL

Jeremy Paul Koenig, a 1999 graduate of Perryville High School, graduated summa cum laude Jan. 10 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis/Washington University joint undergraduate engineering program. Koenig, the son of Paul and Gerry Koenig of Perryville, received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, Phi Kappa Phi and the Society of Future Engineers.

Roth named to Cedarville University fall dean's list

Julie Roth, daughter of Dennis and Joan Roth of Cape Girardeau, was named to the dean's list at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, for the fall 2003 semester. Roth is a senior communications major.

Area students named to OSU fall honor roll

The following students were named to the fall 2003 honor roll at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.: Paul Barber of Altenburg, Mo., Brian Ivers and Karen Ivers of Cape Girardeau.

Student advances in National Geographic Bee

Jared James, a seventh-grader at St. Mary Cathedral School in Cape Girardeau, recently won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee. James, along with winners from other schools across the United States, will now take a written test, and the top scorers from each state will be eligible to compete in a state bee in April.

Middle school students take part in contest

Central Middle School fifth- and sixth-grade students recently participated in Thinking Cap, a statewide computer-based contest. The students answered 100 timed questions as a group. The sixth-grade team placed second among 25 teams. The fifth-grade team took fifth place among 28 teams.
