Southeast awards Regents' scholarships
Southeast Missouri State University has awarded Regents' scholarships to Hanah Swann, Theodore Yates and Chad Burton, all of Cape Girardeau, Jessi Glueck of Scott City and Kelsey Shearon of Jackson for the 2004-2005 academic year. Swann, Yates and Burton will graduate this year from Cape Girardeau Central High School. Swann is the daughter of Norma Swann of Cape Girardeau and Thad Swann of Port Arkansas, Texas. Yates is the son of Margaret and Ted Yates of Cape Girardeau. Burton is the son of Ricky and Susan Burton of Cape Girardeau. Glueck, a senior at Scott City High School, is the daughter of Donna and Stephen Glueck of Scott City. Shearon, a senior at Jackson High School, is the daughter of Alan and Ginger Shearon of Jackson.
Swift earns President's scholarship to Southeast
Heather Swift of Millersville has been awarded a president's scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. A senior at Jackson High School, she is the daughter of Tony and Sandy Wallman of Millersville.
Oran student receives scholarship, awards
Brent Graviett of Oran, Mo., a senior at Oran High School, has been awarded a president's scholarship, a Missouri Leadership Award and Boy's State Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. He is the son of Robert and Carla Graviett of Oran.
Students receive state leadership awards
Jessica Loos of Jackson and Mallory Kiefer of Chaffee, Mo., have received Missouri Leadership Awards to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Loos, a senior at Jackson High School, is the daughter of Robert and Mary Loos of Jackson. Kiefer, a senior at Chaffee High School, is the daughter of Donnie and Mary Ann Kiefer.
Dost awarded honorary marshal from Mizzou
Jamie Sue Dost recently graduated as honorary marshal of the College of Arts and Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dost was one of three marshals chosen for the highest grade point averages in the college. She graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology. Dost is a 2000 graduate of Jackson High School and is the daughter of Gary and Sheri Dost of Jackson. She plans to enter medical school in August 2004 at Mizzou.
Cape native named to honor roll at Mizzou
Garrett Holzum of Cape Girardeau was named to the dean's honor roll at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Holzum, a student at the School of Health Professions, received a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall 2003 semester.
Area students earn spot on Rolla dean's list
The following local students were named to the dean's list at the University of Missouri-Rolla for the fall 2003 semester: Cape Girardeau -- Erik Stidham. Jackson -- Andrew Meyer, Todd Shelton, Jessica Shultz, Richard Smith, Doyle Stadt, Anna Stoverink, Clay Turner.
Jackson students named to CMSU dean's list
Three Jackson residents were named to the dean's list at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo., for the fall 2003 semester: Ashley Millham, Lisa Millham and Derek Wischmann. Wischmann also was among the 1,150 students who graduated in December during CMSU's winter commencement ceremonies.
Garvey to go to Young Leaders Conference
Nick Garvey, a junior at Jackson High School, has been chosen to participate in the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., in February. He is the son of Joe and Maryann Garvey of Jackson. The six-day conference is a leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit. Around 400 students from around the country will attend.
Placement exam to be held Jan. 24
The Notre Dame Regional High School Placement Exam for the Class of 2008 is scheduled for Saturday at 8:15 a.m. All eighth-graders interested in taking the exam should report to Notre Dame High School at 8 a.m. and bring two No. 2 pencils and a calculator. Principal Brother David Migliorino, Brad Wittenborn, faculty and staff will be present to answer any questions or to give tours of the building. Students or parents interested in Notre Dame should call the school office for information at 335-6772.
Three St. Mary students win word competition
Three students from St. Mary Cathedral Grade School in Cape Girardeau were the champions of the school level competition of Reader's Digest National Word Power Challenge. The students -- Adam Parker, Luke Wedemeier and Caitlin Simmons -- answered oral and written questions on vocabulary in the first round of the 2nd annual Word Challenge and will advance to the state level competition Feb. 27 in St. Joseph, Mo.
Holyfield makes MWSC president's honor roll
Alyssa Holyfield of Cape Girardeau was among 319 students at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo., named to the fall 2003 semester president's honor roll. To be named to the honor roll, students must carry at least 12 college hours and maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
