The League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri will discuss early intervention for children at risk at their meeting Thursday.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Bessie's Restaurant in Cape Girardeau.
The focus for League of Women Voters groups across the nation is the needs of children and their families.
Speaking at the meeting will be Sara Michie of the Cape Girardeau County Health Department and WIC; Susan Bartlett, director of Parents as Teachers; Janis Jones of the EduCare Program; and a local representative for the 93 children enrolled at the local Head Start.
Each speaker will talk about the impact of their programs on children from birth to pre-school age.
"The nurturing capacity of families and the well-being of children are linked to the communities where they live," said Nelda Steffen, program chairman.
League of Women Voters meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month and are open to the public. On Oct. 19, Kevin Zoellner, assistant prosecuting attorney for Cape Girardeau County, will talk about juvenile justice.
