Constitutional Amendments and Initiatives on the November ballot will be examined at the Thursday meeting of the League of Women Voters of Cape Girardeau County. The meeting is open to the public.
Yvonne Ketcham will lead the discussion, which is aimed at clarifying the complicated provisions included in the technical language of the amendments and initiatives.
Ballot issues and discussion facilitators will be:
Amendment 1 (change percentage needed to pass tax increases from 2/3 to 4/7 in municipalities, counties, and school districts Larry Dew, business manager, Cape Girardeau Public Schools.
Amendment 2 (construction of toll roads and bridges) and Proposition A (riverboat gambling) Walt Wildman, Regional Commerce and Growth Association.
Amendment 4 (rights of criminal victims) Sarah Froemsdorf, Missouri State Survivors Association.
Amendment 6 (budget stabilization fund) and Proposition C (additional duties of lieutenant governor) David Schwab, state representative for the 158th District.
Amendments 12 and 13 Ketcham.
County Planning and Zoning Glenda Quinn, member, planning commission.
Representation on the Cape Girardeau City Council Thomas M. Meyer.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Holiday Inn. Those who wish may attend an order-from-the-menu dinner at 6 p.m.
Purpose of the League of Women Voters, which is a non-partisan political organization, is to encourage active and informed participation in government at all levels. President of the local league is Shannon Anders.
