At its annual meeting Thursday night, the League of Women Voters will celebrate its silver anniversary.
Scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Country Club, the dinner meeting will also involve election of officers. Reservations may be made by calling Nelda Steffen at 334-4394. Visitors are welcome.
With the current president, Frances Harris, in charge, much of the meeting will be devoted to reminiscing about activities and accomplishments of the league during the past quarter century, as well as formulating new goals for the future.
The league, which is affiliated with LWV/USA, is a non-partisan political organization of both men and women which studies issues and encourages informed citizen participation in government at local, state, and national levels. Its Voters Service program, for example, involves sponsoring candidates' and issues forums and aid in registering voters.
Among out-of-town visitors will be Pat Preston of St. Louis, one of the charter members and officers.
