LEADERSHIP RACES IN THREE ILLINOIS TOWNS IN CONTENTION

EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. -- Joe Aden, who has served as mayor at East Cape Girardeau for 24 years, is seeking another four-year term as mayor of the small Southern Illinois community.

Aden, who is retired, will face Alvin Blumenberg in the only contested East Cape race Tuesday.

Jim Poirrier, LaJean Johnson and Jerry Ashley are on the ballot for three four-year terms, and Marge Rendleman is the only candidate for the four-year term of village clerk.

In other Southern Illinois elections:

Three candidates have filed for Thebes village president James L. (Jim) Sutton, Ronnie Hale and Michael Kennedy.

Five candidates are on the ballot for three four-year Thebes trustee positions. They are Clifford Adams, Brian Scott Lesar, Paul Wareing, Jeff Petzoldt and Bruce Clubb. Mary Petzoldt is on the ballot for an unexpired two-year term.

Sheila Dodson is the only candidate for village clerk.

Carol L. Mitchell and Steven W. Dixon will face each other for Tamms president. Five candidates have filed for three trustee positions Linda J. Long, Charles F. Hood, August (Gus) Tribout, Lester Pickett and Ann Pace.

Six candidates, including incumbents Steve Ellis of Grand Tower, Rollie B. Matlock of McClure and Brenda M. Webb of McClure, are on the ballot for Shawnee Unit School District #84 Board of Education. Other candidates are Gary L. Collins and Robert Popejoy, both of Grand Tower, and Randy Colyer of East Cape.
