A former area lawyer who pleaded guilty to embezzling from a deceased client's trust fund will appear in court again Jan. 3, when a Stoddard County judge will decide his sentence. Joe T. Buerkle, who practiced in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, is charged with felony stealing for mismanaging the account of the late Donald P. Thomasson. From Thomasson's account, Buerkle transferred a total of $325,000 into his own bank account. The transactions occurred between Feb. 26, 2006, and Aug. 28, 2007...

Joe T. Buerkle, who practiced in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, is charged with felony stealing for mismanaging the account of the late Donald P. Thomasson. Buerkle faces up to 15 years in prison.
