Babies given to wrong families; lawsuits filed
MARION, Ill. -- A pair of mothers who say medical workers at a Southern Illinois hospital accidentally switched their baby sons last month have filed two lawsuits. Attorney John Womick said Friday that he wants the court to file an injunction requiring Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion to investigate the incident. Womick told the Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale that the baby boys' identification information was apparently switched while staff prepared them for circumcisions at the same time. Womick says both women suffered emotional and psychological injury. A spokeswoman said the hospital regrets the circumstances.
