Laser strikes can temporarily blind pilots. The FAA cited nearly 3,600 laser strikes last year, including 20 at or near Lambert.

A 30-year-old St. Charles, Mo., man was accused last year of pointing a laser at aircraft from his yard. And in 2010, an O'Fallon, Mo., man publicly apologized after pointing a laser at a law enforcement helicopter.
