Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Southeast Missouri State University was recognized as one of the outstanding chapters in the region at the Great Plains Conclave in Grand Fork, N.D. The fraternity was alos chosen to host the 1996 Conclave in Cape Girardeau.

Eight members made a 17-hour drive in February to the University of North Dakota where they beat Kansas City and Iowa State to host next year's regional conference.

"Cape Girardeau is a great place to hold an event like this," said Jason LeGrand, vice president of the chapter.

The conference brings together representatives from Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota.

It is held over a weekend and features workshops and seminars on leadership and goal setting.

At this year's conference, the Cape girardeau fraternity was honored for maintaining the highest grade point average of all other fraternities at Southeast in 1994.

The chapter also was recognized for holding the most successfulo food drive, beating all Lambda Chi Alpha chapters in their eight-state region. The Southeast chapter raised 6,255 pounds of food, which was donated to FISH.

The fraternity is planning a fundraising event Wednesday through Friday called "Hot Tubbing for the American Lung Association." Members will sit in a hot tub for 30-minute intervals during the 48 hours to raise money.
