The Laclede String Quartet will conduct a string workshop in Cape Girardeau Wednesday at 2 p.m., and appear in concert at 8 p.m. The St. Louis-based quartet was founded in 1978 and has performed concerts nationwide. The Laclede String Quartet will conduct a string workshop in Cape Girardeau Wednesday at 2 p.m., and appear in concert at 8 p.m.

The St. Louis-based quartet was founded in 1978 and has performed concerts nationwide. The quartet is composed of Sallie Coffman, who plays the violin; Holly Kurtz, who plays the viola; and Marci Mann, who plays the cello. The workshop will be held in the Brandt Music Hall at Southeast Missouri State University.

The concert will be held in Old St. Vincent's Church. It will feature light classical music selections from their album, "West Side Story & Gershwin Forces," and some of the best known Andrew Lloyd Webber melodies, including "Phantom of the Opera."

General admission is $4. Tickets are $2 for students and senior citizens. University faculty, staff and students will be admitted free.

On Thursday, the Laclede Quartet will travel to area schools, presenting children's concerts. The highlight will be "Three Billygoats Gruff," a new work written by Katherine Gladney Wells for the string quartet. Gladney will narrate the story.
