Coming to the city was inevitable for Randy Eggimann.

The Gordonville native operated Kosmetic Kar Doctor on State Highway Z in Gordonville for 13 years, but finally had to come to Jackson as the business continued to grow. He opened shop in the old Jackson Auto Body building on Jackson Blvd., April 3.

"We just ran out of room," Eggimann said. "We hired another guy and kept getting busier and busier and needing more and more help. We had a three-car shop at first. Now we have a 10-car shop."

Eggimann is pleased with his location, perched high above Jackson Blvd. He said customer response has also been good.

"It's been positive," he said. "We've been busy. We've had a lot of estimates and stuff for people. We're handy -- right here on the highway."

Kosmetic Kar Doctor does "a little bit of everything," in Eggimann's words, other than mechanical work. Insurance work, overall paint jobs, frame work, partial or full restorations, glass work, window motor work and welding are all done by the KKD staff. The new facility also has a baking booth, to bake on a finish like at automotive factories. Eggimann also has his own paint-mixing machine, which has been approved by Ford, GM and Chrysler.

Eggimann uses Martin Senior paints.

The son of Delmar Eggimann, he has enjoyed painting things since childhood.

"I painted my first car at 15," he said. "Before that it was tractors and farm equipment."

Kosmetic Kar Doctor offers free estimates. Eggimann has three employees at the moment and may add a fourth person in the future.

Kosmetic Kar's phone number is still 243-5762.
