Kiwanis International president Robert Moore will be visiting Cape Girardeau on May 15 during his official visit to the Kiwanis Missouri-Arkansas District.

This is the first time Cape Girardeau has served as the location of the international president's official visit.

"It's a big deal as far as our club is concerned," said Ralph Stroud, secretary of Kiwanis Club of Cape Girardeau.

The international president visits each district about once every five years, Stroud said.

A district is a link between the local Kiwanis clubs, like the one in Cape Girardeau, and Kiwanis International. Currently there are 48 districts nationwide and three in formation. The Missouri-Arkansas District has about 8,000 members.

Moore's visit will take him to a dinner being held at the Osage Community Centre with catering provided by Port Cape. After dinner Moore will present a speech.

According to Stroud, 300 people are expected to take part. Currently, 65 people are confirmed to attend.

Kiwanis who are anticipated to attend include the Missouri-Arkansas district's governor, past governors, as well as past and present lieutenant governors, district chairs, officers and members from Missouri and Arkansas.

Already 37 rooms have been reserved at the Drury Lodge for the visit.

Stroud said he has been kept busy preparing for Moore's visit by sending out newsletters to Kiwanis members in the district and keeping people updated on the event through the Kiwanis Club of Cape Girardeau's Web site at www.capekiwanis.com.

Kiwanis is an international service organization that supports children and young adults in their community and worldwide through fund raisers and volunteering.
